Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an important part of traditional Chinese Medicine and Tao, which has been developed over 3000 years and has become increasingly popular in Europe.

Acupuncture is good for many acute or chronic conditions and can prevent illness.  It can also help emotional and stress related problems, including depression and fatigue. It is also recognised for helping with physical pain relief and problems with digestion.

The aim of acupuncture is to address the imbalance of the whole person (body, mind and spirit) as these cannot be separated.

Acupuncture Sessions

The first consultation and treatment will last one and a half hours, while the condition or problem, lifestyle and diet, stress levels and emotions are discussed.  The course of treatment will then be personalised and planned. This can be at the clinic, or home visits are available.

If you have never had acupuncture before you will probably want to know what happens, how it feels and does it hurt?

The initial assessment will be about you, as an individual and not just your symptoms. You will be asked about your sleep patterns, diet and your lifestyle.

According to Chinese medical theory, energy moves the blood and for that reason it takes several minutes assessing how blood flow and energy interact, this is done by checking the pulse on the wrist.

You may be surprised at the amount of information that can be gathered from the pulse.

Acupuncture diagnoses are largely an intellectual process that requires knowledge and the ability to access and process information about many physiological, energetic, emotional and mental functions in each individual. It requires the ability to recognise the underlying patterns of imbalance.

The final part of the diagnosis requires the development of a treatment plan.

Acupuncture sessions can be quite and reflective, relaxing and may provide space for you to talk, laugh or cry.

Super fine high quality sterile needles are used, this can be a gentle and relaxing therapy, they are nothing like hypodermic needles and nothing is injected.

Moxa is commonly used in traditional acupuncture. Moxa is a Chinese herb which is placed on the needle and lit, as it smoulders it puts heat into the part(s) of the body where the needles are placed.

There is no condition, symptom, disease or state of mind that cannot be touched by Acupuncture, because acupuncture works by restoring your body’s own healing potential, it is good for many acute or chronic conditions and can prevent illness.  It can also help emotional and stress related problems, including depression and fatigue, and is also recognised for helping with physical pain relief and problems with digestion.

Acupuncture works by restarting your body’s own healing potential. Dealing with all kinds of physical, mental and emotional problems – without side effects.

Due to being a holistic medicine, Acupuncture treats many symptoms at the same time.

Traditional acupuncture is a safe and surprisingly gentle treatment for a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to the conditions listed below,  If your condition is not listed below the treatment may still be able to help, just ask.   But remember, the person is treated, not just the symptoms.

Before and After Treatment

It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothes.  Bring a warm jacket as sometimes after treatment you might feel chilly.  It is also advisable not to eat a heavy meal before treatment or be too hungry.

Please refrain from alcohol and drugs before treatments unless you have been prescribed them by your GP.  Please advise if this is the case.

After treatments it is quite normal to feel relaxed or tired.  However a feeling of being energised or symptoms appearing to get worse may be experienced – this is only a temporary effect.  Any concerns can be discussed.
